Top whiskies from Connoisseurs Whisky Tasting 20 Jan 2009

Last night we had a great night trying some rare and vintage malts at the WHISKI Bar. The whisky tasting included six delicious drams and here I have compiled the results from the scores given by the attendees.  The line up was as follows, all introduced and the evening hosted by the brilliant Mitch Bechard – Scotch Whisky Ambassador for Diageo.

Glenkinchie 20 Year Old Cask Strength
Rosebank 25 Year Old
Talisker 18 Year Old
Coal Ila 18 year Old
Lagavulin 21 Year Old
Johnnie Walker Blue Label

The top rated whisky was the Johnnie Walker Blue label and the special way it is to be sampled blew people away so all in all the Johnnie Walker Experience was the outright winner in 1st place and some of the comments included:

“the surprise of the night – an outstanding whisky”
“Wow – not what I expected at all”
“unbelieveably smooth”

Second place went to Caol Ila 18 Year Old and
third place went to the Rosebank 25 Year Old

The evening was rounded of with a light supper of either of the following three dishes, all cooked with whisky :

Chicken with whisky madeira sauce on creamy mash with seasonal vegetables
Salmon with an orange and whisky jus on creamy mash with seasonal vegetables
MacSweens Haggis (traditional or Vegetarian), neeps & tatties with our whiski sauce

Overall, a very good evening so if you fancy the full Johnnie Walker Experience, join us on the 29th Jan 2009 at the whisky bar for our next whisky tasting event.

WHISKI Bar group on FACEBOOK

I must admit I am completely new to FACEBOOK, and wasn’t really sure what to do however I have eventually managed to set up a FACEBOOK Group on FACEBOOK called WHISKI Bar. Initially I was trying to just set up a group but it was not liking that and it eventually clicked that I had to join first as myself and only then could I set up a group. What I need now is more members, so far we have a few and I just intend it to grow organically – I don’t fancy doing what some other bars do and sending an invite to everyone on certain networks eg. the Edinburgh network.

So far, I am quite impressed with it and think it could be as useful as the newsletters we send and perhaps more instantaneous. Watch this space and I will update how we get on with it over the coming months … and if you fancy being updated with all the latest, get joining the WHISKI Bar group on Facebook !

Edinburgh – NEW YEARS DAY 2009

What a city Edinburgh is – really fantastic ! There was a new event this year called FEET FIRST and it was up the Royal Mile between the TRON and PARLIAMENT SQUARE not far from the WHISKI Bar – what can I say ? It was simply fantastic. quirky, weird. dazzling… call it what you wish but it was a blast. From gigantic hanging boxes in the air with acrobats coming out of them and perfoming to monsters hanging out of windows and full on trumpet bands dancing down the Royal Mile (with us dancing down behind them – hey hey… ) – it had it all and more.

Anyone who visits Edinburgh can not fail to have a good time as there is just so much going on at this time of year and the New years Day Feet First just adds to experience, keep up the good work Edinburgh
