Nigel Kennedy plays live at WHISKI Bar

NIgel Kennedy at Whiski Bar - 13 Jan 2012

What a night this has been – the worlds best selling violinist Nigel Kennedy sold out the Usher Hall on 12th Jan 2012  as part of his UK tour and tonight he joined our resident band and played live in WHISKI Bar last night 13th Jan 2012!!
His whole entourage of friends and crew came in for a meal and then got a fiddle out and joinedin with our band, The Gorms. Truly electric was the atmosphere in WHISKI last night.

A riot of fiddles is no stranger here as Scottish foot stomping music is our speciality and every night of the week all year round there is lots of toe tapping fabulous bands on here but with Nigel Kennedy playing live with us tonight it was a magic experience for everyone in the bar. Two of his band also played live afterwards making this a Friday to remember. He was a lovely guy and stayed till the very end enjoying the atmosphere and chatting.

We have the vidoe of Nigel kennedy playing live at WHISKI bar and watch this space and we will upload it later today…

Sorry – our video turn upside down and we are working on sorting it out and weillget it up as soon as we can
but here is another one we found of that night

Two Filmcrews Better Than One

Today we had two seperate filmcrews in the WHISKI Bar filming – yes, we are so getting used to this now ! First off was The Travel Channel US for a new pilot called the Gambler and yes, WHISKI featuring so cant wait to see this when it airs in the USA.

Second and at the same time was Japanese travel channel filming all about Edinburgh and the Festival – WHISKI a highlight so this will be great for us also.

We have many US and Japanese visitors to the bar and they enjoy trying the whiskies and sampling our fresh Scottsih food, with Haggis always a big temptation.

Long may the filming continue, Chris proudly had his kilt on today so hopefully a few clips of him in there – Chris has been in so many TV programmes about the WHISKI bar he is a minor celebrity now !

Support Your Local Independent Operator (Bar/Restaurant)

Watching Gordon Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares a few days ago and I was so pleased to hear him encourage everyone to support their local independent restaurant and this applies to all bars and restaurants. All he said made sense and he was commenting that big chains turn out the same food all over the country and mostly they are ready-meals and if we don’t support our local operators, our choice will diminish and all we will be left with is massive “same as” chains turning out the “same as” food.

He put a local restaurant against the chain restaurants and asked people on the street which food they preferred – I am sure you can guess they liked the different locally sourced food he had the local establishment prepare. I firmly believe in this policy and think we must support local operators of bars and restaurants and indeed our local corner shops vs the big supermarkets or all choice could disappear from our towns and cities !

Yes, there are massive chains selling 99p pints like Weatherspoon bars and Mitchell & Bulters and Punch operated bars that are similar all over the country but if you visit the WHISKI Bar, we guarantee a unique experience in a great buzzing environment with one of Scotland’s best ranges of whisky and the freshest locally sourced food we can get – we do not use frozen ready made food and our food  is made fresh on the premises by our skilled chefs – we know this is not the normal in most bar/restaurants but our customers are worth it and we strive to give the best … give us a visit we always look forward to meeting new people in the bar.

WHISKY TRAIL BARS

WHISKI is part of a new website called http://www.whiskytrailbars.com/ which  lists the best whisky bars in Scotland. The brainchild of renound “master of malt” John Lamond, it aims to give visitors to Scotland an unbiased pointer towards the best places to sample our national drink, whisky. The bars cover the whole spectrum of Scotland and offer a varied portfolio of establishments – WHISKI is pleased to be listed as one of these establishments and if  you are in Edinburgh – give us a visit …

CLASS BAR AWARDS 2008 – Best UK Specialist Bar

We were so pleased to have been nominated as one of the two best specialist whisky bars in the UK and we dually headed down to London for the awards cermony. We knew the SPECIALIST BAR awards had 4 categories : RUM, VODKA, TEQUILLA and WHISKY – each with two nominations and these awards covered the whole of the UK so we were very pleased to have made the top two whisky bars. However, on the night WHISKY lost out to the TEQUILLA category which won the day – never mind,  there is always next year.

The awards were great, pushing 1000 people were there from all over the country but I would say very London dominated – free cocktails, wine, meal and then dancing into the small hours if you wanted – we headed back close to our hotel after the ceremony as we know how hard it can be getting a taxi after midnight, found a great late night restaurant in Covent Garden and just had a fab time.

Verdict : very pleased with our finalist status and nomination, London break was simply fabulous and vey glad we went !
