Nigel Kennedy plays live at WHISKI Bar

NIgel Kennedy at Whiski Bar - 13 Jan 2012

What a night this has been – the worlds best selling violinist Nigel Kennedy sold out the Usher Hall on 12th Jan 2012  as part of his UK tour and tonight he joined our resident band and played live in WHISKI Bar last night 13th Jan 2012!!
His whole entourage of friends and crew came in for a meal and then got a fiddle out and joinedin with our band, The Gorms. Truly electric was the atmosphere in WHISKI last night.

A riot of fiddles is no stranger here as Scottish foot stomping music is our speciality and every night of the week all year round there is lots of toe tapping fabulous bands on here but with Nigel Kennedy playing live with us tonight it was a magic experience for everyone in the bar. Two of his band also played live afterwards making this a Friday to remember. He was a lovely guy and stayed till the very end enjoying the atmosphere and chatting.

We have the vidoe of Nigel kennedy playing live at WHISKI bar and watch this space and we will upload it later today…

Sorry – our video turn upside down and we are working on sorting it out and weillget it up as soon as we can
but here is another one we found of that night

“We all feel helpless in the face of a tragedy so we are looking to do something practical”, said David Urqhart from Gordon & MacPhail.

Bonhams Edinburgh, who are giving their services for free, will deliver the special charity auction on Tuesday 29 March 2011 at 7.00pm GMT.  The auction will be held at Bonhams 22 Queen Street, Edinburgh and online at http://www.bonhams.com/eur/auction/19503/lot/1

Gordon & MacPhail launched Generations Glenlivet 70 Years Old at a special event at Edinburgh Castle on 8 March 2011.  Distilled in 1940 only 100 full sized decanters have been released for sale in 2011.  Whisky connoisseur Charles Maclean describes the single malt: “The Glenlivet 1940 opens a door into a different time, another country. To smell and taste this exquisite whisky is to experience the past in a unique way – layer upon layer of flavour, profound and evocative.”

The whisky is beautifully presented in a tear-shaped hand-blown crystal decanter with an elegant British Hallmarked silver stopper. The decanter nestles in a sterling silver base and is framed in a handmade box, crafted in Scotland using Scottish Elm.

This is a beautifil whisky and very rare so this is your chance to buy it and support the Japan releif effort at the same time.

Highland Park 50 Year Old

Well, I don’t think we can afford this for the   WHISKI  bar but I bet it’s a stunner that I hopefully get to try one day. Here’s what they say about it.

Highland park 50 year old

Highland Park 50 Year Old

Highland Park 50 Year Old is the distillery’s oldest and most prestigious release. Only 275 bottles of this remarkable Limited Edition are available. It is a vatting of five casks distilled in 1960. Like all Highland Park, the 50 year old has been cask-harmonised, that is to say, refilled into casks upon reaching maturity in order to ensure perfect balance and consistency.

Highland Park 50 Year Old has been bottled at 44.8% abv to ensure the full impact of the rich, complex flavours that come from a lifetime of maturation.

Inspired by the elemental forces of Orkney, each bottle is hand-crafted from sterling silver and designed by Maeve Gillies, an internationally-renowned designer of engagement rings and bridal jewellery based in New York. Maeve is also a Global Scot, a business ambassador for Scotland. Her design for Highland Park 50 Year Old celebrates Orkney; in particular the influence of the sea, wild weather and the passage of time.

If you have visited the distillery you will know that the Orkney Islands offer an unspoilt environment of breath-taking beauty and clarity. They are much influenced by their location; the sea, wind and rain all combine to create a unique micro-climate. The triumph of Highland Park 50 Year Old is that the design retains the purity of the original inspiration, that of Orkney itself. The beautiful, bespoke bottle with its hand-fitted sterling silver cage is a suitably stunning setting for such a venerable single malt.

Highland Park 50 Year Old is available at £10,000 per bottle and is limited to 275 bottles

Online Whisky Shop now live – The Whisky Still

Online Whisky Shop - The Whisky Still

Online Whisky Shop - The Whisky Still

Atlast, our online whisky shop went live in time for the Edinburgh Festival on the 6th August.  The Whisky Still will sell all the malt whiskies that can be sampled in the WHISKI bar and over the coming weeks we will be adding more so the range will exceed the Whiski bar’s malt whisky range.  Unforuntaley we have had to restrict to UK delivery only at the moment due to some information saying we cant export overseas – we are looking into it and aim to resolve this as soon as we possible can  and resume our worldwide delivery programme.

Have a look around our online whisky shop www.thewhiskystill.com and until the end of August, use discount code TWR-0810 for 5% off your total order at the checkout.
